At 26 gestational weeks, after an amniocentesis and genetic testing, he was diagnosed with Diastrophic Dysplasia, a rare type of dwarfism.

Now 8 years old, our son Kai is happy, healthy, and enjoying life.

The purpose of this blog is to lend support and encouragement to others in similar situations and to share the tremendous experiences we've had and will continue to have as we raise our little, little boy.

"What happened, Johnny?"

Two and three-year old children are so funny and quirky.  Kai is no exception.  Right now he's obsessed with calling John and I by our first names.  He even goes out of his way to say things to us so that he can use our names.

Example.  I overheard this conversation a few minutes ago as John was changing Kai's dirty diaper.

John: C'mon.  Let's change your diaper.
Kai: You change me, John?
John: Yes.
Kai: OK, John.
Normal diaper changing noises occur and then--
John: Aargh! Yuck.
Kai: What happened, Johnny?
John: Let's just say (muffled...I couldn't tell what he said next, but very clearly I heard--)
Kai: OK, John.

Hilarious. Preston still tries the "Kim" instead of mom. It is funny sometimes though isn't it?
