At 26 gestational weeks, after an amniocentesis and genetic testing, he was diagnosed with Diastrophic Dysplasia, a rare type of dwarfism.

Now 8 years old, our son Kai is happy, healthy, and enjoying life.

The purpose of this blog is to lend support and encouragement to others in similar situations and to share the tremendous experiences we've had and will continue to have as we raise our little, little boy.

Kai is in the hospital

Kai has bronchiolitis (which is different from bronchitis). He's been sick since Saturday, and in the hospital since Tuesday. Because of the inflammation and mucous build-up AND because his lung capacity is smaller than average, he's having difficulty keeping his oxygen levels up on his own. He's stuck in the hospital until his oxygen levels improve. He'll most likely be in the hospital at least one more day, possibly longer.

We are praying for Kai and the rest of your family. We had similar situations with Matt. At 2 weeks he was hospitalized with a breathing episode since his palette was underdeveloped. He had many more with a croup like presentation. it lasted about 18 months to 2 years.

God bless you, peggy and Ron
