At 26 gestational weeks, after an amniocentesis and genetic testing, he was diagnosed with Diastrophic Dysplasia, a rare type of dwarfism.

Now 8 years old, our son Kai is happy, healthy, and enjoying life.

The purpose of this blog is to lend support and encouragement to others in similar situations and to share the tremendous experiences we've had and will continue to have as we raise our little, little boy.

Phew! The holidays have been busy. We drove 14 hours to my parents' house in Idaho for Christmas (a long journey, undoubtedly, but well worth it). We came home for three days then went up to Seattle to spend New Year's with more family.

Kai has mastered a few signs. He can sign "more" and "all done". Next we'll work on "please", "thank you" and "sorry".

Pictures coming soon!

That is so great that he is starting to communicate. i have noticed that teaching Shad to sign was one of the best things to help both of our frustrations. Keep it up
