At 26 gestational weeks, after an amniocentesis and genetic testing, he was diagnosed with Diastrophic Dysplasia, a rare type of dwarfism.

Now 8 years old, our son Kai is happy, healthy, and enjoying life.

The purpose of this blog is to lend support and encouragement to others in similar situations and to share the tremendous experiences we've had and will continue to have as we raise our little, little boy.

Highlights from our trip to Idaho

We recently got back from a visit to Teton Valley, Idaho, where my parents live. Kai's favorite things about this trip included

Meeting new friends...
Wearing Uncle Christian's most prized possession (Christian is my 16 year-old brother who--I think--got this hat from my other brother, Sterling, who is in the Utah National Guard)

Getting hit over and over and over...and over...in the head by cousin Audrey (my sister Carrie's one year-old). It got to the point that whenever Audrey was close by, Kai would squeeze his eyes shut and brace himself for the inevitable impact of Audrey's fingers in/on some part of Kai's face/eyes/head.

Tolerating Audrey's kleptomania. There was never a toy Kai had solely to himself the entire time we were there.

And of course, sitting in the fruitbowl. Classic.

In Audrey's defense, every single one of those "hits" were love pats. Or pokes. Ok, maybe some of them were hits. But out of love.

And Kai did a fair amount of stealing, too! Did we ever find that pacifier he took from Audrey? Yeah, that's what I thought.

We miss you guys!

Awww!!! Great photos! You gotta love cousins and their funny way of showing affection! Sonya has taken a few good nudges, but now she is really starting to stand up for herself! She yells "NO!" and grabs her toys back! Too funny! I love the picture of Kai in the fruit bowl! So sweet! His smile is so adorable too! It must melt your heart!

Cute pictures! It looks like Kai had a great time! Love the picture of him in the fruit bowl! I'm sure the next time that he sees his cousin that he'll be a little less tolerant of her affectionate ways. :)
