At 26 gestational weeks, after an amniocentesis and genetic testing, he was diagnosed with Diastrophic Dysplasia, a rare type of dwarfism.

Now 8 years old, our son Kai is happy, healthy, and enjoying life.

The purpose of this blog is to lend support and encouragement to others in similar situations and to share the tremendous experiences we've had and will continue to have as we raise our little, little boy.

We've rented an apartment here in Kennewick until the Salem house sells. We're still unpacking and (annoyingly) without internet. Hopefully we'll be back up and online in a few days.

This is momentous. Look at what The Boy can do!

It is a huge accomplishment for him to be able to pick things up from off the ground when he is in a sitting position. YAY, Kai!

This is one of Kai's and my very good friends, Jessica Curry. She has a magic touch with him; he loves to fall asleep in her arms.

It has been so hot this summer. One night I stripped The Boy down and put him to bed wearing only a diaper.

We are in the middle of moving from Salem, Oregon to Kennewick, Washington. Poor little butter bean has had to just entertain himself while I pack.

9 Month Well-Child

Today was Kai's nine month well-child visit where he was weighed, measured, listened to, watched and talked about. Here are his stats:

Length: 22 inches (0 percentile)
Weight: 16 lbs 13 oz (3rd percentile)
Head: 55th percentile

There is no modest way to say this.

Today the boy used his three-piece set of Cutco teeth to saw through me while nursing. Thank heavens for the power of connective [albeit delicate] tissue. And coagulation (oh yes, there was blood--TMI, I know).

I have been trying to avoid him all day in the hopes that he will forget all about me (and therefore all about breastfeeding) but that's hard to do when you're the sole care-provider.

Big Boy:

Here's to the nine months I've spent in love with my little boy!
