At 26 gestational weeks, after an amniocentesis and genetic testing, he was diagnosed with Diastrophic Dysplasia, a rare type of dwarfism.

Now 8 years old, our son Kai is happy, healthy, and enjoying life.

The purpose of this blog is to lend support and encouragement to others in similar situations and to share the tremendous experiences we've had and will continue to have as we raise our little, little boy.

Yesterday I took Kai to his pediatrician for his 4-month well baby check. He is doing very well; he weighs a whopping 14 lbs 1/2 oz (which puts him in the 25th percentile for weight), he is 20 1/2 inches long (he still hasn't made it into the percentiles for height), and his head circumference is 43.2 cm (putting him in the 70th percentile which only means one thing to me: the kid has some big brains housed in that noggin of his!).

Sounds like a great check up! Did he get measured for cuteness too?

Those sound like my son's measurements. Right now he is far from the chart on height and far off the chart on head circumference. I tell My son his head is big because he has so much brains. He really is so smart. They said his brain was more developed at birth than other babies. After all the times his oxygen tanked he may be about average now. haha. My son grew a lot in the first 6 months about 5-6 inches, and then very little after that (about 2-3 inches since). He is so cute! I hope all is well with him!
